ANISHI Scheme

The A&N Islands provide excellent treatment at free of cost to all civilian of these UT. However, due to non–availability of super specialist doctors and services, a large number of patients are being referred to hospitals on the mainland every year.

Many of these patients come from economically disadvantage backgrounds and are unable to bear the cost of hospital expense in mainland hospital. In order to provide assistance to such patients the Administration decided to lodge its own health Insurance Scheme which shall provide better health care to the persons belonging to the following categories :

1. BPL category settled in the A&N Islands.

 2. Government Pensioners settled in the A&N Islands with their dependent family members.

3. Permanent resident of these Islands with family income upto Rupees below 3 lakhs per annum.

The Andaman & Nicobar Islands Scheme for Health Insurance (ANISHI) was officially announced on the auspicious occasions of India Republic Day 2015 by Hon’ble Lt. Governor A&N Islands Lt. General A.K. Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM (Retd).

• The Health Insurance (ANISHI) shall provide cashless treatment upto Rupees 5 Lakhs per patients per illness which include indoor and outdoor treatments.

• Free travel expense for patients with one attendant shall be reimbursed (Bunk class fare)

 • Critically ill patients, if referred under the scheme to travel by flight, will be entitled to reimbursement of the air ticket for patient and one attendant.

 • In the very rare case of a beneficiary falling sick during a personal visit to the mainland and who requires emergency treatment, benefits under the scheme can be availed of but the travel expenses will not be allowed.
